Chris Ritter was a minor league pitcher for five years, peaking at AA.

Ritter was drafted three times. The Chicago Cubs chose him in the 9th round of the 1983 January draft and the New York Yankees took him in the 8th round of the secondary June draft that year. The Pittsburgh Pirates chose him in the third round of the 1985 secondary January draft. He made his pro debut with the Macon Pirates, going 7-7 with a 2.89 ERA. He was 7th in the South Atlantic League in ERA, leading a staff which included future big leaguers Tim Drummond, Brett Gideon and John Smiley. In 1986, Chris went 14-9 with a 3.05 ERA for the Prince William Pirates, giving up 148 hits but walking 82 in 177 innings. He led the Carolina League with 149 strikeouts and ranked 5th in ERA.

Chris faded to 8-4, 4.06 for the 1987 Harrisburg Senators, helping the team to the Eastern League title. Back with Harrisburg in 1988, he had a 4-5, 3.39 record in a season limited to 12 games, presumably due to injury. He was let go by Pittsburgh and signed with the independent Peninsula Pilots, going 1-6 with a 4.98 ERA in 1989 to end his career.

Overall, the big right-hander had a 34-31, 3.48 record in minor league baseball.
