Biographical Information[edit]

The son of Rod Nichols, pitcher Chris Nichols began his professional career in 2012.

Chris was All-State in cross country and baseball in high school. He had a 9-2, 5.01 record as a college freshman and 5-2, 4.53 as a sophomore. In 2012, the junior was 1-3 with two saves and a 7.71 ERA and .337 opponent average. He was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 31st round of the 2012 amateur draft despite these struggles. He became the first Sioux Falls athlete drafted in any of the major North American sports leagues. He made his pro debut with the GCL Phillies on June 18th, allowing 3 hits and 2 runs in an inning against the GCL Tigers on Opening Day.
