Biographical Information[edit]

Chris Cullen made his debut in the affiliated minors in 2009 after starting out in the Independent Leagues.

Cullen had gone 4-1 with a 1.63 ERA for Team Ontario's senior team in 2004. He also played basketball in high school. In 2005, he enrolled at Coastal Carolina but did not play before transferring to Michigan State. In 2006, he won four games for Michigan State. In 2007, he went 2-2 in 18 games for the Spartans. He spent the summer with the Mat-Su Miners, going 1-1 with a 1.74 ERA. As a senior with Michigan State, he had a 5-4, 4.95 record.

Undrafted, Cullen signed with the Edmonton Cracker-Cats and was 5-1 with a 3.20 ERA in 2008. Had he qualified, he would have been second in the offense-happy Golden Baseball League in ERA. That earned the interest of the Pittsburgh Pirates, who signed Chris. He made his debut in Organized Baseball with the 2009 Lynchburg Hillcats, going 4-4 with 2 saves and a 5.01 ERA in 39 games.
