Biographical Information[edit]

Chris Corn was named Big 8 Conference All-Star Pitcher in both 1993 and 1994. He was also drafted both years. First the San Diego Padres took him in the 60th round (1690th overall) in the 1993 amateur draft. The next year he was taken by the New York Yankees in the 21st round (591st overall). During a breakout year with the Tampa Yankees in 1996, going 12-4 with a 2.91 ERA and 109 strikeouts, he was dealt to the Pirates for Charlie Hayes. Once in the Pirates system he was converted to a reliever. He pitched well out of the pen for the A Lynchburg Hillcats in both 1997 and 1998. During the 1998 season he was sent to the AA Altoona Curve and back to the rotation but struggled with the adjustment and went 2-2 with a 5.48 ERA.
