Biographical Information[edit]
Chris Cammack was on Team USA.
The third baseman was a 9th-round pick of the Washington Senators in the 1967 amateur draft out of high school, but did not sign. He was also the point guard on the state champions in high school. He was on Team USA in the 1969 Amateur World Series, hitting .350 for the Silver Medal winners. He set a NC State record by hitting .429. His roommate there was Mike Caldwell; they would make the NC State Hall of Fame together. In the 1970 amateur draft's secondary phase, he went to the Philadelphia Phillies in the 5th round. He was picked one more time, by the Baltimore Orioles in the January 1971, right about the same time he was getting married. He was reportedly offered a generous bonus and Double-A contract by the Washington Senators after the 1971 college season, but opted to go into the insurance business instead. [1] He was, at the time, the only 4 time all-conference player in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
