Biographical Information[edit]
Chippy McGarr coached for his hometown College of the Holy Cross in 1895.
He was a National League umpire for one game in 1895 and for a full season in 1899. Those were the days when umpires had specialized roles and would not rotate, so out of 111 games in 1899, he worked 109 as the base umpire, and only 2 behind home plate.
