Biographical Information[edit]
Le Roy "Chick" Maynard was a star shortstop at Dartmouth College who came to the majors after graduation in 1922. He started off fairly well in the majors, but as time went on he struggled with hitting and fielding, and was waived by the Boston Red Sox after barely two weeks. His total was 12 games in the big leagues (and at least one exhibition game). He never played in the minors.
After baseball he became a manager in the paper industry.
Through 2020 there have been two major leaguers named Maynard, and both have been remembered by nicknames. The one other than Chick Maynard was Buster Maynard, whose real first name was James.
