Biographical Information[edit]

First baseman Chih-Wei Hsu became the third Taiwan native to sign with the Pittsburgh Pirates system, following Chi-Hung Cheng and Ping-Hung Chi (the latter by only a short while), inking a deal in mid-2009. He made his pro debut on June 21 for the GCL Pirates, going 0 for 2 against the GCL Yankees. He only hit .154/.214/.205, then the Pirates released him. He joined the Pirates as a minor league coach in 2021. In 2023 World Baseball Classic, he was a coach for Italy.
