Biographical Information[edit]

Charlie Maloney, who was born in Cambridge, MA and went to high school in Cambridge, attended Boston College in 1905-08 and then pitched two innings for the 1908 Boston Doves, giving up one run. The Doves were an old team, with an average age of 30.9, and Charlie was almost the youngest player on the team. He was managed by Joe Kelley, who was named to the Hall of Fame many decades later in 1971. Charlie lived almost that long, dying in Arlington, MA in 1967.

"Charley Maloney, the Boston College pitcher, was given a two-innings trial by Boston against St. Louis on the 10th inst. He showed skill, but lack of experience." - Sporting Life. August 22, 1908 issue
