Biographical Information[edit]
Charlie Jaeger pitched eight games for the Detroit Tigers in 1904, putting up a decent ERA of 2.57. At age 29, he was several years older than teammate Sam Crawford. Charlie did not play for the Tigers the following year when the 18-year-old Ty Cobb made his major league debut.
For the most part, Charlie was pretty successful in his major league appearances, except for one time when he allowed six runs in four innings. In the other seven games he was in, he allowed only eight earned runs in 45 innings. However, he did allow a lot of unearned runs.
Charlie was in the minors for at least eight seasons. He won 17 games for the Evansville River Rats in 1907. He was born, and died, in Ottawa, IL, and in general he played for teams in the Midwest that were not too far from his hometown.
