Biographical Information[edit]
Charlie Gessner was in the majors for one game, on July 19, 1886, playing for the 1886 Athletics. He pitched eight innings against the 1886 Red Stockings. He was the same age as the Athletics' regular catcher, Wilbert Robinson, who also made his major league debut in 1886. Charlie was also in the minors for at least five years, and managed for a couple of seasons.
Sporting Life showed a player named Gessner pitching for the Girard club in a game in June, 1883, so if it's the same Gessner, he was an amateur player at that time.
