Biographical Information[edit]
Charley Suche pitched one game for the 1938 Cleveland Indians. He had previously that year posted the best ERA on the team at Wilkes-Barre.
Suche was born in Cranes Mill, TX, between San Antonio, TX and Austin, TX. He pitched for Fargo-Moorhead in 1934-35, winning 19 in 1934 and going 22-5 in 1935. Clay Smith, who would later be a teammate on the 1938 Indians, was also at Fargo-Moorhead in 1935.
Charley had less success in 1936-37, posting a losing record for two teams each year, and then went 6-13 for Wilkes-Barre in 1938. However, his 3.10 ERA was best on the team and he came to the majors in September 1938.
He pitched for Wilkes-Barre and Hartford in 1939, Hartford in 1940, and Hartford and Bridgeport in 1941.
He played service ball during World War II, and on September 17, 1944, was one of three pitchers to combine to throw a no-hitter (the others were Marius Russo and Tommy Bridges).
