Biographical Information

Minor league first baseman Charles Stuvengen spent ten years in the minor leagues, playing from 1922 to 1931.

He batted over .300 four times - .346 with eight home runs and 10 triples in 1922 for the Marshalltown Ansons and Rock Island Islanders; .309 with six home runs in 1924 for the Des Moines Demons; .349 with 13 home runs, 42 doubles, 18 triples and 229 hits in 1925 for Des Moines; and .309 with 25 home runs in 1930 for the Waco Cubs. With others, he represented Des Moines on the 1925 Western League All-Star team. With Waco in 1929, he hit three home runs in three consecutive at-bats during a game in August. The last dinger was a grand slam.

he served with the U.S. Army Signal Corps during World War I.

His son, Charles Stuvengen, Jr. signed a contract with the New York Giants in 1949 and was assigned to the Reno Silver Sox, though it appears he never played for them.
