Charles Simmonds
Charles Simmonds was a catcher for New South Wales and Melbourne in the 1900s and early 1910s. He played for Australia against the US Great White Fleet in 1908. He once took a white potato from his pocket and threw it over third base to dupe the runner on third, tagging him out with the real ball (which Simmonds had concealed in his glove). In 2007, he was inducted into the Baseball Australia Hall of Fame alongside Wild Bill Edmonds and Matthew Sheldon-Collins.
