Biographical Information[edit]
Second baseman Charles Pinkney played in the minor leagues from 1906 to 1909. With the Dayton Veterans of the Central League on September 14th, as the season was winding down, he was hit by a pitch thrown by Casey Hageman of the Grand Rapids Wolverines. It was the second game of a doubleheader and the light was bad. The pitch hit Pinkney directly on the head, just above the left ear. Pinckney fell to the ground and was immediately taken to a local hospital but died the next day.
