Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Charles Peterson was selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the first round of the 1993 amateur draft having been described as one of the best athletes available coming off being a finalist for Player of the Year honors in both baseball and football in South Carolina in 1993. Peterson was recruited to play football at Miami, Alabama and Florida, but decided to sign with the Bucs instead. He subsequently spent seven years in their minor league system, peaking at AAA in 1998, when he played 8 games with the Nashville Sounds. He then spent the next eight years kicking around the independent leagues and playing in Mexico.

Peterson became a scout for the St. Louis Cardinals in 2012, signing 2020 first rounder Jordan Walker. He was also an assistant football coach at Spring Valley High School.

Peterson died in 2020 after battling COVID-19.
