The daughter of a minor league player, Charlene Pryer played in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League from 1946 to 1952 after serving in the Marine Corps during World War II. As a rookie outfielder with the Muskegon Lassies, she hit .202 in 1946 and improved to .249 the next year. She missed most of the 1949 after suffering a severely broken ankle while sliding. The next year, she was traded to the South Bend Blue Sox. In 1951, she led the league with 133 hits, 129 steals, and 106 runs scored and was an All-Star. However, the next year she was suspended following a dispute with manager Karl Winsch. She was ultimately reinstated after the season but decided to retire.

Overall, in seven years, Pryer hit .255 and stole 510 bases in 704 games.
