Biographical Information[edit]

Chao-Wei Yu pitched in the CPBL for 3 years.

Yu went undrafted in the 2016 CPBL Draft, and the Lamigo Monkeys signed him. He underwent a right shoulder injury, and he missed the entire 2017 season.Yu came back and debuted in 2019, but his ERA was 5.40 in 6 games. He then mainly stayed in the minor league in 2020, and he only pitched 9 games with the big club with a 12.41 ERA. Yu broke out in 2021, having a 2.95 ERA in 51 relief outings and notched 7 holds. He was 11th in appearances (7 behind Hung-Cheng Lai and Junichi Tazawa) and also won the CPBL Most Improved Player Award. However, he struggled in 2022, and he never pitched a game for the Monkeys in the 2022 and 2023 seasons. The Monkeys then released him, and Yu announced his retirement.

Yu's repertoire included a fastball (peak 90.7 mph) and curveball.

Overall, Yu was 2-2 with a 5.22 ERA, struck out 51 and pitched 58 2/3 innings in 66 games in 3 seasons in the CPBL.
