Biographical Information[edit]

The son of big leaguer Kevin Gross, outfielder Chad Gross was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the 26th round of the 2006 amateur draft but opted to attend Cuesta College instead. He was then selected by the New York Yankees in the 28th round of the 2008 amateur draft. He began his pro career that summer with the GCL Yankees, hitting .238/.286/.329 with 20 RBI in 47 games. He stole five bases in six tries and only made one error. He fanned 45 times in 143 at-bats while drawing only six walks, a situation hindered by his large strike zone and height. He hit just .145/.203/.273 in 21 games for the Staten Island Yankees, striking out a whopping 32 times in 55 at-bats the next year before being released.
