Centreville Orioles

From BR Bullpen

The last Organized Baseball team in Centreville, MD through 2006 was the 1946 Centreville Orioles. A member of the Eastern Shore League, they were managed by Jim McLeod and dominated the ESL with a 88-37 record, 11½ games ahead of second place Milford Red Sox. They then defeated the Dover Phillies 4 games to 3 in the playoffs and Milford 4 games to 1 in the finals. Centreville led the league in offense (815 runs) and was second in pitching/defense (577 runs allowed).

Al Heuser (6-0, 1.10) was dominant in 7 games, while Mike Gast (16-5, 3.11) led the league with 182 strikeouts and Stan Coulling (17-8, 2.88) and Richard Waldt (17-7, 4.06) tied for the win lead. OF Jimmy Stevens (.292/~.364/.386) led the league with 132 runs and 80 steals (twice as many as the runner-up). OF Fred Pacitto (.342/~.410/.461, 102 R) was second in the league in average, tied for the lead with 13 triples and led in hits (164) and third OF Nick Malfara (.342/~.418/.489) was third in average, scored 103 runs and drove in 99, second in the league.

Not bad for a one-year team.
