Centerfield

From BR Bullpen

Centerfield is a song written and performed by John Fogerty, formerly of the rock band Creedence Clearwater Revival. It is perhaps the most well-known mainstream song about baseball. A reflection on the joys of growing up playing the national pastime, it notably makes reference to the Mudville Nine, Ty Cobb and Joe DiMaggio. Its best known verse is its chorus "Put me in, coach, I want to play centerfield".

Released in 1985, it peaked at #44 on the Billboard Hot 100. It appeared on the eponymous album, Centerfield. In 2010, the Hall of Fame honored the 25th anniversary of the song's release by inviting Fogerty to perform it at that summer's induction ceremony. He sometimes performs the song on a special guitar crafted from a Louisville Slugger bat.
