Category talk:Minor league teams

From BR Bullpen

Unified all Minor league teams into one category. Previously these were split into two categories:

Category:Minors still exists and has a good introduction in it. Don't know if we should move that here? Should we keep the other category? I suppose it could be a place for various Minor league articles. --Pti 15:56, 9 Sep 2005 (EDT)

I'd like to see[edit]

Minors become "Minor Leagues" then the subcategory "Minor league teams" made to read "Minor League Teams" to keep it in line. I'd also like to see "Minor League Players" become "Minor League Prospects", does that sound fair?

I definately agree on "Minor League Teams". I wish most things weren't case sensitive on this thing but they are so the caps would be the consistent thing here. I would also agree on "Minor Leaugues" except I was thinking that maybe we should use that for actual leagues such as International League, Pac Coast League etc. I think "Minors" should either be the parent category for All subjects relating to Minor League baseball or it should disappear altogether. Lastly I do believe that "Minor League Players" to be preferable to "Minor League Prospects" only because the category could contain Minor League lifers who were never "Prospects". But let's get some consensus from others. I don't believe there is any easy way to make these changes in mass so I think I'll wait before making another massive attempt at categorizing these things. --Pti 17:02, 9 Sep 2005 (EDT)

Changed this category to Category:Minor League Teams (caps). So I believe that issue is settled. Still need to consider issue regarding "Minors" and "Minor League Players" vs "Prospects". There may be room for both "Players" and "Prospects" and categories but we just need to define each. --Pti 10:27, 11 Sep 2005 (EDT)

The idea of having separate "Players" and "Prospects" sounds perfectly reasonable to me. There needs to be some kind of criterion for who qualifies as a "Minor League Player". Is it anyone who spent most of his career in the minors, or should it be restricted to players who never made it to the majors at all? Either way, I think that "Prospects" should just be "Prospects", not "Minor League Prospects", as young players in the majors can still qualify. --Roger 18:36, 23 Jan 2006 (EST)

Players so far seems to have only been used for players who never played in the majors (who get the Player tag), Negro Leagues (who get the Negro League Players tag) or Japan (who get the Nippon Pro Baseball Players tag). So we're left with famous non-stars from the minors (Brien Taylor, Steve Dalkowski, John Elway), players linked to by several other pages (Jim Aylward, Paul Wenson) or people who become more famous as managers, owners, etc. - --Mischa 18:47, 1 Feb 2006 (EST)
