Biographical Information[edit]

After hitting .311 as a college senior, Casey Smith was drafted in the 34th round of the 2001 amateur draft by the Anaheim Angels. He began his career with the Provo Angels, hitting .321/.411/.386 and making the Pioneer League All-Star team at shortstop. The next year, he hit .248/.306/.304 with the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. Hitting .285/.350/.369 for Rancho Cucamonga the next season, Smith also played for the Arkansas Travelers, hitting .284/.329/.364 as the team's main second baseman.

Smith hit .282/.320/.371 for Arkansas in 2004 and .273/.322/.348 as a utility infielder for the Salt Lake Stingers. Repeating in the same role with Salt Lake in 2005, Casey slipped to .221/.289/.257.
