Biographical Information[edit]
Cary Broder is an International Scout for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Born in Minneapolis, he moved to Taiwan after attending graduate school at USF. He was the co-founder of The East Windup Chronicle, a popular website covering baseball and culture in the Pacific Rim region. The Minnesota Twins hired him as a scout for Asia in 2008 and he remained with them through 2017 before leaving for the Dodgers. He covered Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Europe, China, Australia and North America for the Twins and Dodgers.
He has signed Hung-Yi Chen, Chih-Wei Hu, Kuo-Hua Lo and Kai-Wei Teng and played a role in the signings of Vadim Balan (the first player signed to a MLB minor league contract from Moldova) and Tsuyoshi Nishioka and the acquisition of Miguel Sulbaran, whom the Twins later traded for All-Star shortstop Eduardo Nunez. Hu appeared in the 2016 Futures Game and made the majors in 2017.
Broder speaks English, Chinese, Japanese, Italian, Spanish and Hebrew. He presently resides in Tainan, Taiwan with his family. In addition to scouting, he also works as a professional DJ and music producer internationally.
