Carmelo Pettener

Carmelo Pettener was an inaugural member of the Italian Baseball Hall of Fame. He became an umpire in 1954 and started working international tournaments in 1961. He worked five different European Championships, concluding with the 1979 European Championship. He also worked with the European Baseball Federation's Technical Commission from 1972-1978. Outside of baseball, he worked in the United Nations. While with the UN, he was stationed in Haiti for many years; he started a school for umpires while he was there.
