Carlos Pérez pitched for the Nicaraguan national team in the 2008 Americas Baseball Cup. The diminutive right-hander got a strong start against the Netherlands Antilles national team, allowing two hits and one run in six innings, fanning seven. He tossed four shutout innings in a start against the Brazilian national team, leaving with a no-hitter in progress; Jairo Pineda finished the no-hit shutout and got the win. For the tourney, Carlos was 1-0 with a 0.90 ERA, the 7th-best ERA for a pitcher who worked at least 10 innings. His .067 opponent average was the lowest in the Cup. His work helped Nicaragua win a spot in the 2009 Baseball World Cup.
