Cameroon Baseball & Softball Federation

The Cameroon Baseball & Softball Federation (known as the Fédération Camerounaise de Baseball et de Softball in French) oversees the Cameroon national team, which went 0-5 in the 2007 African qualifier for the 2008 Olympics.

The Federation is located in Yaoundé. Current president (2009) is Sone Winslow.

Brief History

The Federation was founded on October 29, 1997 by a decree signed by the Minister of Youth and Sport, Samuel Makon Wehiong. The federation was founded after the hard work of two men, Hamad Kalkaba Malboum and Major Us Russo. Mr. Malboum handled the administrative side of the plan, and Major Russo handled the technical details. The original idea for a baseball federation in the African nation goes back to a meeting in 1991 in Yaoundé to study the idea of creating such an institution.

After the creation of the l’Association Camerounaise de Baseball et Softball (the "A.C.B.S.") in 1992, a letter was sent to the Ministry of Youth and Sport, asking for permission to speak to the African Baseball and Softball Association (ABSA) about official recognition. The Ministry's response was unambiguous and they agreed in principle to allow further talks with the ABSA. The ACBS was also recognized by the Cameroun Olympic Comittee in 1992.

Five years later, the ACBS asked the Ministry to be formally recognized as a sports federation. This decision was granted in 1997. The first general assembly of the newly created FCBS was held at the Hilton Hotel in Yaoundé January 24, 1998. FCBS officials are elected to four year terms.
