Biographical Information

Cal Hubbard began umpiring in the Piedmont League in 1928. He then umped in the Southeastern League (1928-1929), South Atlantic League (1930) Piedmont League again (1930-1931), International League (1931), Western Association (1932), and finally International League again (1932-1935). As an American League arbiter from 1936 to 1951, Hubbard worked four World Series and three All-Star Games. He succeeded Tom Connolly as supervisor of umpires in 1954, having worked as his assistant the previous two years, and retired in 1968.

On the gridiron, Hubbard was an all-pro tackle. He played for the New York Giants (1927-1928) and Green Bay Packers (1929-1933). He was the line coach at Texas A&M University in 1934, then played for the Packers again in 1935, Giants again in 1936, and Pittsburgh Steelers in 1936.

He is the only member of both the Pro Football and Baseball Halls of Fame. He is also a member of the College Football Hall of Fame.
