CIBC

From BR Bullpen

CIBC, the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce is a major Canadian bank headquartered in Toronto, ON. It was founded in 1961 from the merger of two banks, both of which dated back to the first years of Confederation in the 19th century. It is one of Canada's "Big Five" banks, but also has activities in the United States and in the Caribbean Basin.

In 1976, it was one of the initial owners of the Toronto Blue Jays, alongside Labatt Breweries, through one of its arms, Imperial trust, an investment fund based in the British Virgin Islands that owned 10% of the team on behalf of its wealthy investors. As a result, the CIBC was the official banking partner of the team for over two decades, until the bank's shares were sold to Rogers Communications as part of its takeover of the team from Interbrew S.A. on September 1, 2000.
