Biographical Information[edit]

C.L. Houston played briefly as a pro. He hit .315/?/.384 for the 1937 Monroe Twins, playing shortstop (BR minors lists him as playing outfield, but that was his brother Gordon Houston. C.L. tried out for the Texarkana Liners for 1938 but failed to make the team; his brother made it and won a batting title that year. C.L. and Gordon both tried out for the Army Air Corps in November 1940; when C.L. failed his eye exam, he was given a ground-based role for the Air Corps. His brother Gordon was the first American baseball player to die during service in World War II; C.L. had to claim the body.
