C.J. Wamsley

Biographical Information[edit]

C.J. Wamsley played college ball at Western Kentucky University and graduated in 2009 with a degree in business and organizational communication. He was a four-year letterwinner at Western Kentucky and a .300 career hitter for the Hilltoppers. Wamsley helped his team win Sun Belt Conference championships in 2008 & 2009 and participated in a pair of NCAA Regional tournaments.

Wamsley immediately joined the coaching ranks after completing college. He served as an assistant coach at Morehead State University from 2010-2011. During the summer of 2011 he also coached the Morehead City Marlins of the Coastal Plains League which is a wooden bat league for college players. Wamsley spent the next seasons (2012-2014) as the volunteer assistant coach for the Troy University Trojans. He joined the Ohio University program in early 2015 as an assistant coach and the recruiting coordinator. Wamsley coached the Bobcats through 2019.

The Detroit Tigers hired Wamsley in late 2019 to work as the Toledo Mud Hens development coach before the coronavirus pandemic forced the cancellation of the 2020 minor league season. Wamsley did coach Toledo in 2021 in the same capacity, then served as the hitting coach of the West Michigan Whitecaps in 2022-2023 and Erie SeaWolves in 2024. Following the 2023 season, Wamsley served as the hitting coach for the Salt River Rafters in the Arizona Fall League.
