Biographical Information[edit]
Butch Thompson has been a college coach.
Thompson was a pitcher in college. He became a coach at Huntingdon College in 1993 then was at Birmingham-Southern from 1994-1996. He was head coach of Jefferson State Community College, taking the team to third place in the 1997 NJCAA Division II Baseball World Series. He then was back at Birmingham-Southern from 1998-2001 then was assistant coach at the University of Georgia (2002-2005). Thompson then was assistant at Auburn University from 2006-2008 and Mississippi State University from 2009-2015. He returned to Auburn as head coach for the 2016 season. He took them to the 2019 College World Series (their first College World Series in 22 years) and 2022 College World Series. Among his players have been first-overall pick Casey Mize.
