Biographical Information[edit]
After starring on the gridiron at the University of Illinois, Burt Ingwersen played for the Decatur Staleys of the NFL in 1920. He returned to his alma mater as a member of the football coaching staff from 1921 to 1923 before moving on to the University of Iowa, where he became head football coach. In eight seasons leading the Hawkeyes, his teams posted a 33-27-4 record. Next, he joined Northwestern University as head baseball coach and an assistant football coach. On the diamond, he led his teams to a 35-51-1 record from 1936 to 1939. During World War II, he served in the U.S. navy, and following the war, he was a member of the University of Illinois football staff for two decades.
