Bunt-and-run

From BR Bullpen

A "bunt-and-run" is a variant of the hit-and-run in which the hitter bunts the pitch rather than swings away.

Like the hit-and-run, the bunt-and-run is intended to lessen the chance of the lead runner(s) being thrown out as they advance. Also like the hit-and-run, the base-runner(s) take-off as with a delayed steal, introducing more risk of being doubled off if the ball is hit in the air.

The bunt-and-run seeks to negate any advantage of a bunt defense and (with a speedy runner) may seek to exploit it if third base is left unoccupied in the infield's bunt rotation. The runner, having left first with the pitch, may have the opportunity to continue on to third on if the defense is slow to recognize the play and has left third base open.
