Biographical Information[edit]
Outfielder Bubba Ball played in the southern minor leagues from 1946 to 1952. A high-average, low-power hitter, he batted .302 with a .357 slugging percentage in 778 career games; he had 870 hits, of which just 14 were home runs. He rattled off four straight .300 campaigns from 1947 to 1950, hitting .305, .333, .341 and .308, respectively.
He also managed, heading the Opelika Owls in 1948-1949, the Andalusia Arrows in 1950 and the Headland Dixie Runners in 1951. He led Headland to a 84-36, 1st place finish, though they lost in the first round of the playoffs.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
