Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Bryan Woo made his major league debut less than two years after being drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the 6th round of the 2021 amateur draft out of California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. That placed him among the first members of that draft class to reach the Show.

His major league debut for the Mariners against the Texas Rangers on June 3, 2023 was one to forget though, as he gave up 6 runs on 7 hits over 2 innings and was charged with a 16-6 loss. He did put the loss behind him as he pitched fairly well the rest of the season, finishing at 4-5, 4.21 in 18 starts, with 93 strikeouts in 87 2/3 innings. In 2024, he was one of the members of a young but outstanding Mariners' starting rotation that also included the likes of Logan Gilbert, George Kirby and Bryce Miller. Of course the team's problem was not preventing runs but scoring them, although contrary to his rotation mates, Bryan usually received decent run support. On September 11th, he had the best game of his career thus far when he carried a perfect game bid into the 7th inning against the San Diego Padres before fernando Tatis Jr. ended it with a rocket homer that just curled inside the left field foul pole with one out. He left the game after recording one more out and allowing a double and a walk. Reliever Troy Taylor allowed another hit that resulted in a second run allowed, but Seattle had built enough of a lead for him to end up a 5-2 winner.

His last name resembles the signature shouting phrase "Woo!!" used by legendary wrestler Ric "The Nature Boy" Flair, and Bryan has embraced this, putting a likeness of Flair on his cleats.
