Biographical Information[edit]
Pitcher Bryan Sammons was originally drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 8th round of the 2017 amateur draft out of Western Carolina University. He pitched in the Twins system from 2017 to 2022, reaching AAA with the St. Paul Saints in 2021. He had to sit out the 2020 season when the minor league were shut down by the COVID-19 pandemic after having been a mid-season All-Star in the Florida State League in 2019.
He became a free agent after the 2022 season and signed as a free agent with the Houston Astros but was released at the end of spring training in 2023 and ended up in the independent Atlantic League with the Gastonia Honey Hunters. After 5 games there, he was signed by the Detroit Tigers and after 4 starts with the AA Erie SeaWolves, ended the season in AAA with the Toledo Mud Hens. Overall, he was 3-4, 4.83 in 19 games in the Tigers' system that year. In 2024, he started the season back in Toledo and was 6-5, 4.18 after 17 starts when he got the call to Detroit. His debut came on July 29th, when Beau Brieske failed to make out of the 1st inning in a start against the Cleveland Guardians. He gave the Tigers more than they could have anticipated, as he then pitched all the way until the end of the 8th inning, sparing the rest of the bullpen, he gave up 5 runs on 4 hits in those 7 1/3 innings of relief, all the runs coming on three long balls. José Ramírez got two solo shots off him, and Josh Naylor got him with a three-run blast.
