Biographical Information[edit]

Brian McRae declared that unless he was a first round draft pick, he would continue on to college to play baseball and football. It seemed as though there was little interest in the second baseman (converted to outfield in the minors). His selection as the first round draft choice of the Kansas City Royals in the 1985 amateur draft was such a surprise that Brian had to be notified by telephone that he had been chosen. In fact, he had not played baseball at Blue Springs High School in the Kansas City, MO area before transferring to another school in Florida.

He is the son of Hal McRae, who was still active as a player for the Royals when he was drafted, and was his manager from 1991 to 1994.

McRae coached for the US in the 2010 World Junior Championship.
