Biographical Information[edit]

Brett Bakner was a minor league player for two years.

He played both football and baseball in college. He signed as an undrafted free agent with the Toronto Blue Jays but hit only .169/.243/.250 in 39 games, playing error-free ball as an outfielder. Following a knee injury, he was let go by Toronto. He tried out for the St. Louis Cardinals during the 1995 strike but was not offered a contract. He signed with the independent Richmond Roosters, now as a pitcher, and went 2-1 with a 3.07 ERA in 15 games (7 starts) in 1995, walking 29 and fanning 36 in 58 2/3 IP. Bakner then entered the US Air Force.
