Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Brandon Sproat was drafted three times. The first time came in the 7th round of the 2019 amateur draft, when he was taken by the Texas Rangers out of high school. However, he decided to go to the University of Florida and was again drafted in the 2022 amateur draft, this time in the 3rd round by the New York Mets. He declined their offer, returned to the Gators for another season in 2023, when he went 8-3, 4.66 in 19 starts, and was drafted a third time after that, by the Mets again, this time in the 2nd round of the 2023 amateur draft. That time was the right time, and he signed shortly thereafter. In all, he had spent four seasons at Florida, but the first one, in 2020, had been cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic after he had made just 4 relief appearances.

He started his professional career in 2024 by appearing with three different teams: the Brooklyn Cyclones of the South Atlantic League; the Binghamton Rumble Ponies of the Eastern League and the Syracuse Mets of the International League as he reached AAA in his first pro season. He also played in the 2024 Futures Game that year, and finished the year with a combined mark of 7-4, 3.40 in 24 games, with 131 strikeouts in 116 1/3 innings. After the season, he was named the Eastern League Pitcher of the Year and a post-season All-Star in the circuit.
