Biographical Information

Brad Halsey was drafted by the New York Yankees in the 8th round of the 2002 amateur draft. He was signed by scout Steve Boros and made his pro debut that summer.

In his big league debut, Halsey singled in his first at-bat - his first hit since his sophomore year in high school. He made the news when, pitching for the Oakland Athletics in 2006, he gave up Barry Bonds' 714th career homer, tying him with Babe Ruth for second on the all-time list. While his final major league game was that season, he continued to pitch in the minor leagues and independent ball until 2011.

He passed away in 2014 at the age of only 33. He died after falling from a 100-foot cliff near his home in Texas, although it was not clear whether he fell or jumped to his death. His body was found on October 31st on a private property at the base of the cliff, but his death was not reported until a few days later. A judge was appointed to investigate the circumstances of his death, although friends stated that it was most likely a recreational climbing accident.
