Biographical Information[edit]
Pitcher Bob Couchman spent 19 seasons in the minor leagues, from 1909 to 1917 and from 1919 to 1928. He won at least 10 games 16 times and over 200 games in his career.
In his first campaign, with the Bay City Cardinals, he went 13-19, then followed that with 17 victories in 38 games between the Rock Island Islanders (37 G) and St. Paul Saints (1 G) in 1910. He then won 10+ games each season from 1912 to 1917, missed 1918 to service in World War I, then rattled off 8 more seasons of 10+ wins. He won 15 or more games each season from 1918 to 1924, with a career-high 20 in 41 games between the Galveston Pirates and San Antonio Bears.
Overall, he went 217-234 in 565 games. In 3,669 2/3 innings, he allowed 3.559 hits and 944 walks.
He co-managed with San Antonio Bears with Ray Flaskamper in 1927, replacing Honus Mitze. In 1928, he led the Coleman Bobcats to a 67-49 record and a second place finish.
He umpired in the minor leagues in the early 1930s.
