Biographical Information[edit]

Connecticut native Bob Barthelson spent five active seasons in professional baseball from 1944 to 1950. The right-hander spent part of one season, from July 4, 1944 to September 27, in the Major Leagues with the New York Giants. He appeared in seven games with the Giants, with a 1-1 record and a 4.66 ERA.

Barthelson was also in the International League with the Jersey City Giants in 1944, spinning an 8-10 record with a 2.94 ERA, while pitching 144 innings in 21 appearances. In 1945, the twenty-year-old had his first double-digit win season with 12 wins for the San Francisco Seals of the Pacific Coast League. Bob was out of baseball in the 1948-1949 seasons and would finish out his professional career in 1950 with the Drummondville Cubs of the Class C Provincial League. He posted a 14-6 record while pitching 185 innings in 26 appearances. This season was his finale in the minors and he ended with a 35-37 record with a 3.96 ERA while pitching 638 innings in 121 games.

After baseball, Barthelson would return to his home in Branford, CT, where he lived and worked until his death on April 14, 2000. He was 75.
