Biographical Information

Pitcher B.J. Wallace competed for the United States at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona. He was selected by the Montreal Expos with the third overall pick in the 1992 amateur draft but never reached the major leagues. In 1992, he had set a school record at Mississippi State University, striking out 145 batters, 9 more than Jeff Brantley's mark in 1985. His three year record in college ball was 21-9 with 271 strikeouts in 265 innings.

B.J. Wallace had a great first year in organized baseball in 1993, compiling a record of 11-8, 3.28 with 126 strikeouts in 137 innings for the West Palm Beach Expos of the Florida State League. Things went sour in 1994, however, after he was promoted to the AA Harrisburg Senators of the Eastern League. He had one good month in May, with a 1-1 record and a 3.18 ERA in six starts, but he was roughed up in his two other starts, ending with a 1-3 record and an ERA of 4.81. He made two stays on the disabled list, the first in April because of tendinitis, and the second beginning on June 4 which eventually led to shoulder surgery on August 2nd. He never recovered from that procedure, although the Expos did place him on their Major League roster after the 1994 season, and he was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the minor league phase of the 1994 Rule V Draft. He did not pitch at all in 1995. He made a last effort in 1996, going 3-4 for the Clearwater Phillies in 1996.
