Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Billy Briggs played briefly for the Memphis Chickasaws in 1945 at age 17 before joining the Navy for the remainder of World War II. He returned to baseball in 1947, winning 19 games for the Greenville Bucks of the Cotton States League while pacing the circuit with a 1.93 ERA. He allowed only 205 hits in 257 innings. In 1949, he had his second and final double-digit win season, going 14-10 with a 3.59 mark for the Muskegon Clippers. He continued to play pro ball through 1952. He was 51-46 in his career. Available records also indicate he was a competent hitter — with the Colorado Springs Sky Sox in 1950, he batted .324 in 34 at-bats.

After his baseball days, he worked in sales while continuing to coach youth baseball.
