William J. Wollenburg

Biographical Information[edit]

Bill Wollenburg pitched on the unaffiliated Berwick Slaters of the Class D North Atlantic League in 1950. He went 2-5 with a 7.07 earned run average in 56 innings. In those 56 innings, he gave up 71 hits and 39 walks. He started 11 of his 13 games played. At the plate, he hit .182 (4 for 22) with no extra-base hits.

He was born to Joseph and Nora Wollenburg of Junction City, Ohio in 1931. At New Lexington High School, Bill did well in baseball, football, and basketball. He was elected to the All-Ohio second team in basketball during his senior year. Later in life, Wollenburg was inducted into the Perry County Baseball Hall of Fame and the New Lexington High School Sports Hall of Fame.

While in the Army, Wollenburg played both baseball and basketball.

Bill was president of the Local UAW 1037 and was appointed to the International UAW where he represented workers from fifteen plants.

Wollenburg died at the Ohio State University Medical Center. His residence at the time of his death was in Newark, Ohio. At the time of his death, he had been married for 51 years to his wife Barbara. He had two sons, Jeff and Vince Wollenburg, and five grandchildren.
