Biographical Information

On August 11, 1961 the Philadelphia Phillies signed Bill Wilson as an amateur free agent. He spent his first year with the class C California League Bakersfield Bears where he won 7 games while losing 10 and put a 4.64 ERA on the board. Wilson spent a total of 10 seasons in and out of the minors, finishing up his professional baseball career with the Eastern League Reading Phillies in 1974.

Wilson put together reasonable statistics during this run, winning 42 games and losing the same number while appearing in 253 games. He pitched in 668 innings allowing 646 base hits and giving up 381 base on balls, all this work gave him a 3.84 ERA.

Bill spent the 1969 season with Philadelphia, appearing in 37 games, all in relief, winning 2 and losing 5, but had a good 3.32 ERA and recorded 6 saves which tied for the team lead. He spent parts of the 1970 and 1971 seasons and all of the 1972 and 1973 seasons with the Phillies before being traded to the Milwaukee Brewers for Frank Linzy on November 7, 1973. 1973 was to be his last year in the major leagues, however.

Wilson appeared in 179 games during his major league career, all in relief roles, winning 9 times and losing 15 to go along with 17 saves. He pitched 258 innings, gave up 229 hits and wound up with a life time major league 4.22 ERA.
