Biographical Information[edit]

Bill Whaley was with the 1923 St. Louis Browns. He appeared in 23 games, hitting .240 with three extra base hits. Defensively, he played in the outfield (mostly center field). He also was a pinch-hitter ten times.

Bill came to the majors after four seasons with the Bay City Wolves, for whom he was a two-way player. He hit over .300 each year, with the average steadily increasing each year, although he had little home run power. As a pitcher, he posted a record of 15-5 in the years 1919-21. After his year in the big leagues, he spent two seasons with the minor-league Los Angeles Angels, hitting .328 and then .257. In 1926-31 he moved around quite a bit, usually playing for more than one team each season. In both 1928 and 1931 he played for three teams.
