Biographical Information[edit]
Pitcher Bill Steele was struck by a streetcar as a pedestrian in Overland, MO and died of multiple injuries during his transfer to St. Louis County Hospital. His death certificate lists the death as an homicide, which may not signify murder, but simply "vehicular homicide", or being fatally struck by a vehicle. The accident happened on a night of heavy rain and he was found under the rear wheels of the streetcar, with no witness being present except for the conductor, who declined to testify when brought before a grand jury.
His son Bernard Steele was a minor league player.
