Biographical Information[edit]

Only two major league players have been called Bill Jones, in spite of how common the name is. This Bill Jones was nicknamed "Midget". He is one of few major leaguers to have been born in New Brunswick, Canada, and the only one ever born in Hartland. He played major league baseball in 1911 and 1912, with the Boston National League team which lost over 100 games each year.

Jones was not as bad a hitter as his .216 batting average might imply. He got 15 walks along with his 11 hits, giving him an on-base percentage of .394 on a team that had an on-base percentage of .336. As a fielder, he unfortunately made 6 errors in 18 games in center field.

Boston had purchased him from the Portsmouth Cobblers of the Ohio State League.
